Our Mission: To support today’s youth in fostering purposeful lives by advocating for improved mental health policies and services, encouraging responsible device usage, and connecting communities in real life
Our History
In 2023, Travis Scott’s cousin Brent Warnecke unexpectedly passed away from a heart condition.
Brent had been more of a brother than a cousin. He was the older brother Travis never had., He was a role model, someone Travis looked up to. When they were kids, he was a protector.
When they became adults, Brent became the connector. He planned trips and events that brought the family and friends together.
Brent was generous with his time and energy so that the people around him felt connected to one another.
He was extremely also philanthropic, especially when it came to causes involving children.
Brent was also an avid cyclist.
There's no doubt, Brent's passing was an enormous loss for Travis and his family.
In 2024, at a fundraiser for The Brent Warnecke Scholarship Foundation, Travis purchased Brent’s road bike in a silent auction.
Through this simple thing, Travis found purpose. The purpose he had lost since his diagnosis with depression and anxiety, brought on by the unimaginable loss of his cousin and the unexpected divorce of his parents- after nearly 50 years of marriage- both happening within months of each other.
Travis had known he wanted to support today’s youth in fostering purposeful lives by advocating for improved mental health policies and services, encouraging responsible device usage, and connecting communities in real life, but he didn't know where to begin.
In that moment, he realized he could do this with something as simple as cycling.
Within months, Travis created a non-profit, Cycling On Purpose, and will honor Brent with the Resilient Ride during the summer of 2025 where Travis will ride Brent’s bike from his home in Washington state to Indiana, where they grew up only five miles from each other.
With your support, Cycling On Purpose will evolve and grow its impact.
To preserve its founding purpose and inspiration, Cycling On Purpose established its mission, values, and goals.
Our Values
GENEROSITY: to give resources, time, energy, and focus to one another - particularly our youngest and most vulnerable who are looking to adults to set examples for how to live with purpose
CURIOSITY: to always be asking questions and learning more about each other, our world, and our potential in ways that foster improvement and purpose
ACCOUNTABILITY: to respect and appreciate ourselves and one another by exercising integrity and responsibility without stigma so that everyone benefits
RESILIENCY: to know that failure breeds growth by seeking and expecting challenges so that we are always working toward being our best selves, even especially when it's hard.
Our Goals
Support youth in fostering purposeful lives: educating youth and their families about purpose (what you love+what your skills are+what the world needs)
Drive community change: modeling generosity; sharing real life examples of living with purpose; dismantling negative stigma around seeking and prioritizing mental health services; engaging in real life
Improve mental health policies and services: advocating for practical and impactful change; partnering with organizations and service providers that prioritize mental health
Encourage and model responsible device usage: challenging schools and families to limit device use and connect in real life
Connect communities: hosting in person events while cycling from WA to IN
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it."
