The WHY
In 2021, the surgeon general's advisory, "protecting youth mental health", laid out specific steps to combat those same issues for youth today. Cycling on Purpose is determined to follow the advice of the surgeon general and connect individuals, families, communities, environments, and societies with practical skills they can use to better support young people today.
"When I found out I was going to be a Dad, a flood of emotion washed over me, including the fear of school shootings, lockdown drills, social media, cyberbullying, a 24-hour doomsday news cycle, the list goes on and on. I kept thinking how in the world can a kid grow up with hope about the future?
I'm riding my bike 2800 miles to raise awareness and money to change laws and regulations around smartphones and social media," Travis Scott, Cycling on Purpose Founder, said.

Cycling on Purpose is excited to announce special musical performances by up and coming singer songwriter Quincy Robbins. Based in Sandpoint, Idaho, Quincy performs a mix of originals and piano arrangements of popular covers at Inland Northwest venues and events. When she is not behind her piano, you can find her drawing, writing, creating handcrafted jewelry, or mountain biking on her favorite trails.
As a sibling of a child with a mental health disability, Quincy is an advocate for youth mental health and teen struggles through her art and music.
Cycling On Purpose
In 2023, my cousin Brent Warnecke unexpectedly passed away. He was only 52 years old.
Brent was an avid cyclist, loved to travel, and was extremely generous, especially when it came to causes involving children.
Brent was the person that made sure everyone was included in travel plans, even if he knew you were unlikely to join. I was usually the one, living out of state, who couldn't make it. Of course, I now regret not making those trips.
With that regret and the reality of how short life really is - on June 12th, I will leave my home in WA and ride Brent's Trek Madone road bike 2,800 miles back to Indiana, using the opportunity to bring attention to youth mental health issues and raise money toward education, advocacy, and research.
